Who is she and why does her music attract such interest?
The name GERDA reminds us of the heroine of a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, who literally became the prototype for most modern cartoons and artistic images in the lyrics of musicians. Many people have an association with a small, albeit very brave girl who goes alone to save her brother in the enchanted palace of the Snow Queen. The author very accurately reflected the essence and character of the name.
Women with the name GERDA are united by very strong strong-willed qualities and a desire to create something new, to go against stereotypes for the sake of something important to them - it is this idea that the artist’s name embodies.
The heroine of our article was born into a creative family, and her future life was predetermined in early childhood. “Everything went by itself,” comments GERDA. From childhood, the instrument at home, which the whole family played, and the creative environment formed the future skeleton of our musician. Everyone loved to create around her, and why hide it, because the performer’s parents had already set an example for her by giving concerts. “Music is in everything,” this is how GERDA describes her childhood.
The next stage of life was theater school, “music school” is an organic and logical course of life in order to decide who you are.
Speaking of songs, what we can hear now is the fruit of long and hard work, because full-fledged releases began to be released only in 2021. As our strong-willed heroine notes, “I realized that the time had come. It’s very important to feel the signs that the universe gives you.”
GERDA's music is literally a play on the strings of the soul intertwined with unusual vocals, presented in a modern package for the listener.
Interview
1. Have you released songs before under a different pseudonym - is there such a secret side to your creativity?
I started releasing songs in August 2021 and released 7 tracks, almost in a row. It was as if the confidence had come that the time had come - it was time! Why didn't I do this before? Don't know. Some kind of signal went off. But the most difficult thing in any business is starting, gathering a team, and figuring everything out. Then it becomes easier when you are no longer alone.
3. Is the genre you are currently working in the final stop? Or should we still wait for experiments and testing ourselves in one genre or another?
In music, the only end point is to stop working. The artist himself does not know how his music will change. I admit that soon, of course, some unusual songs for the listener will appear in my performance - these are not experiments, but a completely logical development of a musician as a creative person.
4. What would you have become if you had not chosen a career as a musician?
I really love sports and dancing. Perhaps I would try my hand at coaching or choreography. Maybe I would like to become a psychologist. Definitely something to do with working with people. I would still like to bring benefit to people and see the result of my work in their eyes.
5. It’s not your “first day” in the industry, are there any prospects for development in the Russian music market - who do you see yourself in the future: a local star or a figure on the big stage?
I don’t want to draw a “floor or ceiling” for myself; “virtualizing” about the impossible is also not very good. I just work and create quality songs. Only the audience will determine how much they need what I do, and the more “sweet” and more accurate my work is, the more people it will reach the hearts of!
6. Is there any clear schedule for releases or does everything happen spontaneously, by inspiration?
With releases it cannot be spontaneous; it is a process that requires a certain order. At least 14 days before the release of the song, you need to send the distributor material, which includes a fairly large volume: from the cover to the video. You still need to prepare for a release, even the most unexpected one for an artist.
7. How long does it take to write one song: arrangement, lyrics, melody, editing and shit control?
The maximum it took me was 8 months. Cartier is a song that, as if enchanted, did not work out. The arrangement was redone only 4 times, but even this was an interesting search for oneself and the sound that the imagination came up with.
8. What is most valuable to you in music: lyrics or sound? Can you explain your position?
The text, of course, is 100%. A song is, first of all, words set to music. Words that evoke emotions are important.
9. How do you feel about ghostwriting, producing - do you think that music can be created collectively, and that this is how one can achieve, objectively, the coolest sound in tracks?
Yes, and this is undeniable. Only collectively, only as a team, only together. You can't do anything yourself. It is impossible to be a sound engineer, sound producer, arranger and artist at the same time. And the important point is that someone must “hold the artist’s hand” throughout the entire journey and support him. Audience, relatives, friends... We need support.
10. Are there any upcoming releases that we should know about?
Each of my releases is my favorite and long-awaited one.
My audience is waiting for new items with me. It's very motivating. We consult on what topics to release tracks on and what we should talk about with our music.
11. Recently, a very popular thesis is that “a musician should have his own studio at home” - how do you feel about this, do you have a base for rehearsals at home?
Yes, sure. Microphone, synthesizer, guitar, speakers, audio equipment. How can you live without this?
12. How do you feel about the music that is now popular among young people and is the most profitable branch in the music industry?
I like a lot. But I try to listen less to look for my sound and find my own. At the same time, I am often very interested in what they are doing around me. There are many talented people in music.
13. Personal life or musical career - which is closer to you in this dilemma?
I think there are stages in which either one or the other dominates. Everything has its time and this is absolutely normal.
14. Is it possible to consider your work separately from your image?
No impossible. An image is a style, a presentation of musical material, a train of thought, timbre, rhythm, presentation... character, taste, emotions. This is the originality of any artist, his uniqueness and value.
15. How do you cope with burnout? Have you encountered this phenomenon before?
Of course, all the time. This is normal, but the main thing is not to push yourself to the point of burning out. It is important to stop and rest in time. Do iPhones charge everything? And you need to charge yourself!
16. We talked about the anxiety when going on stage, how do you cope with it - some kind of breathing exercises, the conditional five drops, or abstraction from the outside world and “lying” in peace for some time?
I don’t like to talk before going on stage, I don’t like noise around me before performances. I need to be quiet.
17. Was there anything funny or simply memorable at the concert or at the rehearsal?
Well, of course. And my voice broke and I stumbled))))
18. Is it difficult to develop as an artist now - how do the partial taboo concerts, the political and social situation affect you?
It’s hard for an artist at all times. But now, more than ever, I feel the need for my music among the audience who listens to my songs!
