Gorillaz have unveiled two new tracks from their upcoming album The Mountain — The Hardest Thing and Orange County.

“The Hardest Thing” features the late legendary drummer and composer Tony Allen, marking one of his final recordings. Minimalistic and introspective, the track explores themes of grief and hope, with a floating vocal line that seems to drift through space, as if transitioning into another song.

“Orange County” serves as a companion piece to “The Hardest Thing” but brings a warmer and more emotionally open sound. With contributions from Bizarrap, Kara Jackson and Anoushka Shanksar, the track blends Gorillaz’s signature energy with a laid-back, almost meditative atmosphere.

Earlier, in September, Gorillaz released the album’s title single The Happy Dictator. It was followed by The Manifesto, The God of Lying featuring Idles, and Damascus, recorded with Yasiin Bey and Omar Souleyman.

The release of The Mountain is scheduled for February 27 and will coincide with a four-week limited exhibition titled House of Kong in Los Angeles. Gorillaz will also perform the album in full during a special two-night show at the Hollywood Palladium on February 22 and 23.

The Mountain is set to be a fully conceptual, multilingual project in which Gorillaz explore themes of death, transition, and the afterlife, merging music, visual art, and storytelling into a single immersive experience.
