King Crimson-affiliated quartet Beat, assembled to perform Fripp and company's 1980s catalogue live, have released a version of 'Frame By Frame', originally featured on Crimson's 1981 album Discipline (watch video).

The song, from the forthcoming Beat Live album, was recorded and filmed at the United Theater in Los Angeles in November 2024 and comes after the release of Neal And Jack And Me last month.

"It's a wonderful piece of music," says guitarist Steve Vai. "It has these unique, deadly polymetric interweaving of guitar parts that support the most beautiful lyrical and vocal melodic lines with grace and grace. It's a joy to play every time. Did I mention the guitar parts are deadly?" Vai is joined for the show by former King Crimson guitarist/vocalist Adrian Belew and Chapman Stick player Tony Levin, with Tool drummer Danny Carey rounding out the quartet. The album was produced by Angelo "Scrote" Bundini and mixed by Bob Clearmountain.

"Robert Fripp remarked in the '80s that the King Crimson quartet was arguably the best live band in the world at the time," says Belew. "Tony, Steve, Danny and I strive to honor that legacy with every show we do."

The album's release will be celebrated with a one-off concert at Tokyo's Budokan Hall on September 1.

Beat Live, subtitled "Neon Heat Disease," will be released on InsideOutMusic/Sony on September 26 as the usual set of vinyl, CD and Blu-ray editions, and can be pre-ordered now.
