AnDy Darling presented a dramatic anthem SLUT against abuse

Singer AnDy Darling (Anastasia Dunaeva) released a new single and video SLUT (watch the video).

The Russian has been actively pursuing a career in the USA since 2021. With powerful, distinctive vocals, AnDy Darling is capable of working in different genres, including extreme ones, but in recent years she has been drifting towards a mainstream pop sound with forced guitar hooks. The song AnDy Darling - Don't regret (I don't regret anything) was included in the soundtrack of the acclaimed and now multiple Oscar-winning film "Anora", her track Slavic Hood has gained more than 15 million views, she opened her own music agency Duna Eva in the USA.

SLUT begins with gentle piano lilts, but then the singer's anxious and at the same time ingratiating voice with a slight split and hoarseness intervenes in contrast, announcing with some detachment that her beloved has broken her arm. What? Yes. A downright Brechtian technique of communicating terrible things in an ordinary, everyday voice. And on the phrase "my baby hit me for being a slut" the singer makes this very word Slut the main hook of the chorus, singing it with an unexpectedly sharp glissando upwards under a forced roaring guitar riff and sweeping duple drums. It's memorable once and for all.

Girl songs about domestic violence are not uncommon in American show business. Christina Aguilera sang Oh Muther and I'm Ok, Mary J. Blige sang the heart-wrenching Whole Damn Year, Kelly Clarkson - Never Again and countless other examples. Thanks to gun rights in the US, many songs contain, like Andy Darling, some hint at a solution to the problem thanks to a gun (Andy has it like this: "So I pulled out a gun"). The only difference is that Andy gives an encyclopedic full range of feelings of an abuse victim: he loves me, he beats me, I love him and am afraid of losing him, I do everything he wants from me, I pulled out a gun (in our conditions - a knife, a frying pan and anything), why was I afraid to leave him?, no one cared about the bruises on my body, next time I'll be good. A real guide to the feelings of abuse victims in one song! That's what's unusual. The video for SLUT, directed by Vlad Larvin, is also not new in concept. The completely naked singer suffers on the floor, sits in the bathtub, looks at herself in the mirror, looks out the window, crawls on the bed and even walks down the street. Of course, starting approximately many times with Madonna and Kylie Minogue with Bjork, and ending with Jennifer Lopez in In The Morning and Beyoncé in many videos, all this was somehow. But not so integral! And no vulgarity or bad taste. They say that Nastya even caught a cold after filming. I hope this video will get into video competitions, it is worth it. In the end, we see a full-fledged statement by the artist on a relevant topic, clearly close to her internally, and conveyed passionately and dramatically. Without the support of world majors, it is unlikely to fly high in the charts, - but this is an impeccable work both in content and in terms of vocal work. Literally a master class in lyrical-dramatic vocals with splitting and an instant transition from vocal attack to heartfelt lyricism, almost a whisper.
