Full information

Singer Dennis Edwards died on February 2, 2018, at the age of 74 in Chicago from complications caused by meningitis. He died one day before his 75th birthday. Edwards was born in Alabama and began singing as a child. When his family moved to Detroit, the boy performed in a church choir, then was the lead singer of several groups, including the Contours, which worked with Motown Records. In 1968, Dennis was offered to replace the departed vocalist of the Temptations, David Ruffin, and he agreed. Together with Edwards, the Temptations released their biggest hits, "I Can't Get Next To You", "Papa Was a Rolling Stone", "Cloud Nine" and "Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today)". In 1977, they parted ways with Dennis when the group decided to leave the Motown Records label. But the separation was short-lived: in 1980, they returned to the company, and the former lead singer took his place at the microphone. In addition, Edwards released three solo albums, and in recent years performed the group's hits as part of the Temptations Revue, a group consisting of some of the original members.

The Temptations were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and in 2013 received an honorary Grammy for lifetime contribution to the music industry.
